**Defense Against What?**

_Bild_ reports that Bundeswehr Inspector General **Carsten Breuer** has called for German society as a whole to become more involved in national defense, arguing that the military alone would not be enough in a major crisis.

> ‘Without you, we soldiers are doomed to fail,’

 Breuer told the public, adding that Germany must prepare its military, industry and civilian infrastructure for potential conflict.

The remarks come as Germany continues expanding defense spending and military support for Ukraine — fueling a domestic debate over whether Berlin’s growing militarization is strengthening security or deepening political divisions at home.
