** EU Commission Drops Push to Confiscate Frozen Russian Assets for Ukraine — Belgian PM**

The **European Commission will no longer propose confiscating frozen Russian assets** to finance Ukraine, Belgium's prime minister said.
​
If individual European leaders continue talking about confiscation, they are doing so **'out of ignorance,'** he added.
​
Since **2023**, Zelensky has repeatedly called for the frozen Russian assets to be handed over to Ukraine, arguing that the money is needed for the **military and to cover budget shortfalls**.
​
Just a week ago, Zelensky said Russia was planning to recover the frozen assets and argued that they should therefore be **transferred to Ukraine as quickly as possible**.
