** French Filmmakers Warn 2027 Budget Could Push National Cinema Off Screens**

A group of **174 French filmmakers** has spoken out against the proposed **2027 budget**, warning that it could threaten the future of French cinema. The open letter was published by **Le Monde** and signed by directors including **Jacques Audiard, Justine Triet and Claire Denis**.

The signatories oppose plans to **double VAT on Canal+ services** and cut funding for **France Télévisions by €47 million**. They estimate that these measures, combined with possible cuts to the National Centre for Cinema and Animation, could reduce production by **80 films per year**.

The filmmakers also called for a separate cinema law governing releases on **streaming platforms**, regulating the use of **artificial intelligence** and protecting state funding for the industry.
