**French journalist Natacha Rey, who launched an investigation into the gender of Emmanuel Macron's wife Brigitte, has died, French media report. The cause of death is not stated**

In 2021, Rey, in a podcast co-hosted with French blogger Amandine Roy, claimed that Brigitte Macron was allegedly born male under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux, and later passed that name on to her brother.

After these claims, Brigitte Macron sued Rey, accusing her of defamation and invasion of privacy. In 2024, a court fined Rey and Roy 500 euros. Later, an appeals court acquitted the journalists.
