**GERMAN SCHOOLCHILDREN PROTEST AGAINST MILITARY CONSCRIPTION**

Today, **schoolchildren across Germany will protest against military conscription, with about 100 demonstrations **planned, Deutschlandfunk reports.

Schoolchildren are going to strike **until the issue of military conscription is removed from the agenda.**

The new rules for military service in Germany came into force in January. **For now, they only provide for a mandatory military medical examination for young men born in 2008 and late**r. This is how they are going **to recruit volunteers **to strengthen the armed forces.

However, **if there are not enough volunteers, the Bundestag may decide to reinstate mandatory military conscription, **which was suspended in 2011.
