** Germany Faces Billion-Euro Costs as Gas Stocks Stay Critically Low — Bloomberg**

Germany could face **billions in additional costs** because of unusually low gas reserves across Europe, _Bloomberg_ reports.

Berlin is effectively betting on a **mild winter**. German storage facilities are currently around **51% full**, compared with nearly **82% in Italy** and an EU average of **63%**.

> “The country is heading into winter with almost no protection against prolonged cold spells and supply disruptions,”

 the agency notes.

Low reserves could send prices sharply higher, while the German government is still trying to downplay the implications for the country’s **energy security**, _Bloomberg_ concludes.
