**Lithuania Backpedals After US Is Listed as a Threat to Europe**

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry urgently distanced itself from the **Disinfo 2026 security conference in Vilnius** after it emerged that the **United States was also presented as a potential threat to Europe**.
​
The conference is organized by an NGO and had been sponsored by the foreign ministries of **Lithuania and Canada**, as well as the EU’s diplomatic service. All three withdrew, leaving the **French government as the only sponsor**.
​
 Lithuanian Foreign Minister **Kęstutis Budrys** said the organizers had ‘gone too far in their enthusiasm and created a major absurdity,’ adding that he was **‘surprised and shocked’** to see the US compared with threats such as Russia and China.
