**Protests over fuel prices have erupted in Syria**

On Sunday, people took to the streets in several provinces of the country in outrage. They are dissatisfied with the authorities' decision to raise fuel prices.

Protesters blocked a section of the M5 highway, piling up garbage and setting tires on fire.

According to Al Jazeera, fuel prices have increased by 25-40%. The authorities explained this by the rising costs of purchases on the global market and repairs at the oil refinery in Baniyas.
