**Russia and North Korea Open First Road Bridge Across Their Border**

 The first-ever **road bridge linking Russia and the DPRK** has officially opened across the **Tuman River**.
​
 Construction of the roughly **1-kilometer bridge** began in April 2025 following an intergovernmental agreement. It was named after **Yakov Novichenko**, a Red Army officer and Hero of Labor of the DPRK.
​
Until now, the two countries had been connected only by the **Friendship Bridge**, a railway crossing built in 1959.
