**Russia’s sovereignty over the Southern Kuril Islands is not subject to question, the Foreign Ministry said**

Statements by the U.S. ambassador to Japan recognizing Tokyo’s sovereignty over the islands encourage Japanese revanchism and militarism, Maria Zakharova noted.


> “We would like to emphasize once again that the Southern Kuril Islands became part of our country as a result of World War II, as established by agreements among the Allied Powers, including the United States, and by the UN Charter.”
