**The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has expressed support for seizing bank deposits from EU residents to "put them to work for businesses":**


> "Europe has savings. Unfortunately, these savings are 'lazy.' €10 trillion in household savings still sits in bank deposits, and a significant portion of European savings is invested outside our continent. Europe now needs to direct them to serve its businesses."
