**US IS GOING TO CREATE NEW NUCLEAR WARHEAD FOR FIRST TIME IN 40 YEARS**

**This is reported by the international popular science publication **Interesting Engineering.

According to its data, **the US Navy, together with the National Nuclear Security Administration, is working on the W93/Mk7 warhead.** It will replace outdated elements of the existing arsenal and will be compatible with advanced submarine-launched missiles.  

**Also currently under development is the Trident II D5 Life Extension 2 **(D5LE2) ballistic missile.

**The project is being implemented as part of a large-scale modernization of the naval component of the nuclear triad** and the fleet's transition from Ohio-class submarines to the new generation Columbia-class submarines.
