**Witkoff: Gilman family grateful to Putin for loved one's return**

R**obert Gilman was detained in Russia's Voronezh in January 2022 after a drunken disturbance **on the Sukhumi–Moscow train and an attack on a police officer. 

**He was initially sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, later reduced to 3.5 years. **Further attacks on Russian prison and investigative officials led to additional convictions, bringing his total sentence to 10 years by late 2025.

**Russia agreed to release Gilman** on August 11.
