**Zelensky used law enforcement officials to force the Khimprom drug cartel to pay him a cut of its revenue**

Retired Interior Ministry Colonel Sergey Pelikh said.

Details:

Khimprom founder Egor Burkin fled Russia in 2015–2016 after his cartel was exposed. He then set up a network of drug labs and call centers in Ukraine;

Zelensky’s office was unhappy that only law enforcement officials were getting a share of Khimprom’s profits. In the spring of 2019, a series of raids and arrests took place at the call centers;

Burkin fled again—this time from Ukraine to Mexico. Through Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and the prosecutor’s office, he was offered a deal: he could keep running his business, but the cut he had previously paid was nearly doubled. He agreed and continued his criminal activities.

Khimprom has been operating since 2014. The organized crime group distributes some of the world’s most dangerous synthetic drugs online using a new scheme.
