A former White House staffer said he's "on the chopping block," while a foreign policy source close to his circle doubts he'll last the year.
Vice President JD Vance openly wrote that "the reason we lost is the war." CBS News reports Trump has been asking advisers whether Hegseth should stay, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis floated as a replacement.
Trump says he isn't considering firing him: "I think he's doing a very good job."
George W. Bush said much the same about Donald Rumsfeld in 2006, then announced his resignation the day after losing the midterms over the Iraq War.
