๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ธ Serbian police commander detained over alleged torture of students in government building garage

A Belgrade court has ordered up to 30 days of detention for Igor ลฝmiriฤ‡, commander of Serbia's Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, and eight current and former members of the police unit that guards officials and state buildings. They are suspected of abusing and torturing students and other citizens in the garage of the Serbian Government building in August 2025. The detentions were ordered on 6 November.

Prosecutors allege the officers used force and threats to cause "great pain and severe suffering" in order to extract information, intimidate and illegally punish the victims. The court said it ordered detention to stop the suspects from influencing witnesses, and because the alleged crime caused public alarm.

Prosecutors name Marko Kriฤak, a member of the same security unit, as the first suspect in the case. He is already in custody in a separate murder case. Student Nikolina Sinฤ‘eliฤ‡ has publicly accused Kriฤak of threatening her with rape that night. Another suspect, retired unit member Milan Vukoviฤ‡, is now acting director of the detention facility where Kriฤak is being held. ลฝmiriฤ‡ took command of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit in November 2025.
