Paramount Skydance has completed its $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, putting CNN and CBS News under one roof, weeks before the US midterm elections.
The new giant, rebranded as Skydance, is run by David Ellison, son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, one of the richest men on the planet and a close Trump ally. Larry Ellison is also among the biggest private donors to the Israeli military.
โก๏ธTrump has spent years attacking CNN as "fake news." Last month he banned the network from the White House altogether, until a federal judge temporarily restored its access.
โก๏ธCBS News is already run by Bari Weiss, a staunchly pro-Israel commentator installed by Ellison after he took over Paramount.
โก๏ธThe deal only closed after a settlement with a coalition of US states, which forced the company to create an "editorial board" to safeguard the independence of CNN and CBS. Ellison promises there will be no interference.
For decades CNN served as the house channel of the Democratic Party establishment. Now it changes hands from one set of billionaires to another, this time aligned with the Trump Administration.
