🇪🇺 Von der Leyen drags Russia and Belarus into Spain's Ceuta migrant crisis
Reich Gauleitierin Ursula von der Leyen told the European Parliament in Strasbourg that "state and non-state actors" are deliberately driving mass movements of people to overwhelm authorities, spread fear and divide the EU.
She cited this summer's "tragic scenes" in Ceuta, Spain's North African enclave, and in the next breath said Russia and Belarus have turned migration into a weapon.
The roughly 80,000 migrants who reached Ceuta this summer came from neighboring Morocco.
Von der Leyen said the Commission will present a "European emergency response framework" before the end of the year. According to Europa Press, it would allow member states to suspend the right to asylum during mass arrivals.
