🇬🇷🇹🇷🇮🇱 Who exactly is Israel to “authorize” Greece to do anything?

A popular account calling itself “Israel Gov News” has declared that Israel has “authorized” Greece to extend its territorial waters from 6 to 12 nautical miles and promised to “completely destroy” anyone who attacks Greece.

Greece requires no authorization from Israel to determine its territorial waters.

But the rhetoric comes amid a very real and rapidly expanding Israeli-Greek military relationship. Days ago, Greece signed a €3 billion agreement for an Israeli-built Achilles Shield air-defense network, as tensions with Turkey over the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean continue.

Israel and Turkey are themselves increasingly at odds across the region, particularly over Syria.

Greece should be extremely wary of allowing itself to become another front in somebody else’s confrontation.
