๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ Pakistan's nuclear adviser Khalid Kidwai has warned that Islamabad may "review and reconsider all options for appropriate deployments" to restore what he calls the strategic balance with India.

Speaking at the Islamabad Non-Proliferation Conference on Tuesday, the retired Lt Gen, adviser to Pakistan's National Command Authority and a former head of its Strategic Plans Division, pointed to SIPRI Yearbook reports that India has put around 12 nuclear warheads on a submarine for deterrence patrols.

He claimed this means India "can undertake a first strike against Pakistan at zero notice" and questioned India's No First Use policy. He also named missile canisterisation, MIRVs, missile defence and hypersonic weapons as worries, and complained that India gives no advance notice of its submarine missile tests.

Why it matters: a nuclear-armed submarine on patrol is the hardest part of any deterrent to find or knock out. That is exactly what Pakistan is now complaining about.
