His visit carried immense symbolic weight as he became the first to officially cross the newly operational New Yalu River Bridge, which opened to traffic on 15 October 2026 after a 12-year delay.

Kim was received and accompanied by Wang Huning, Chinaโ€™s fourth-highest-ranked official, who delivered warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
