🚨 Flydubai cockpit attack: Captain recalls terrifying moments

Captain Smit Machchhar said co-pilot Hammam al-Hammami, identified by multiple media reports as an Omani national, initially asked to pray in the cockpit — something Machchhar did not find unusual.

Minutes later, Machchhar said he was suddenly attacked from behind, leaving his vision badly blurred as the aircraft entered a sharp descent.

He said he managed to open the cockpit door once, but it was shut again. People outside tried to enter using the cockpit access code, but the door was not opened from inside.

Lying on the cockpit floor and hearing passengers scream, Machchhar said he believed he might die. He then summoned “one last fight,” reached the internal door handle and opened it, allowing people outside to enter and help regain control of the aircraft.
