đź’˘ Anthropic has quietly set up a wet lab in the San Francisco Bay Area as it expands into AI-assisted drug research, Reuters reports. Its biology work has already moved beyond computer modeling into physical experiments.
The company says it wants to pursue treatments for rare and neglected diseases. Anthropic's life sciences chief Eric Kauderer-Abrams confirmed it is conducting some experiments in-house and outsourcing others, while stressing that the company is focused on preclinical work and is not running human trials.
The move comes days after CEO Dario Amodei called for slowing the pace of frontier AI development to allow more time for safety measures.
