💢 Asked how Russia interfered in Brexit, this UK minister's waffling at least makes for a good breakfast
Foreign Office minister Stephen Doughty was sent onto Good Morning Britain to defend Prime Minister Andy Burnham's claim that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Host Susanna Reid asked him again and again what Russia actually did and whether it affected the result. Doughty refused to give a single specific, repeating the same line like a robot: Russia "has been attempting to interfere with our democratic processes for many years."
When he claimed Burnham had only said "attempted," Reid shot back that he hadn't, and they played the clip to prove it. Doughty went straight back to his line.
Co-host Ed Balls finally lost patience: "This is embarrassing... Either answer Susanna's question or just say I'm not going to. This waffle is embarrassing!"
