💢 Clashes in Spain as thousands protest Vox leader Santiago Abascal's rally in A Coruña
Around 5,000 people, according to police sources, gathered in the city's MarÃa Pita square on Wednesday against an event by Santiago Abascal, leader of the populist Vox party, which drew about 300 supporters.
The protest against Vox, called by "student groups", the Galician separatist youth organization Galiza Nova, and a local tenants' union, stayed peaceful until Abascal's speech ended. Protesters then threw eggs and lighters at the police cordon, and riot police charged the crowd.
Two people were detained. Police say a dozen officers were injured, and several protesters were also hurt, at least one with visible facial injuries.
