"We are focusing very specifically on Russia as an opponent," Andreas Kuhne, head of Germany's Special Forces Command (KSK), told Bild.
He added that KSK personnel are now being prepared for prolonged operations, unlike previous ones that lasted around three days. The KSK is preparing for the conditions currently in place along the eastern flank.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that Russia has no reason to enter into a conflict with Europe.
