💢 Putin on his conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre:

"At the very beginning of the conversation, they stressed that they were not representing the EU as an organization, but were calling me in their national capacities, so to speak. The conversation took place on their initiative.

A whole range of issues was indeed raised. I know they were subsequently criticized for this, but it is not for us to judge whether it was right or wrong. I believe it was right.

After all, there are people in Europe who, unlike some, do not want to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, but want to establish some kind of constructive dialogue.

And we support any steps aimed at restoring full-scale and fully fledged relations with European countries. I have always said this. Whether with all of them together through the EU, or bilaterally, it makes no difference to us. Whichever they prefer.

Why, then, do so many people talk only about preparing for war by 2030? Is that right or wrong?

First of all, we are ready, but we do not want any war with Europe. If someone wants one, let them prepare.

But they have not achieved their goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia even now. It is unlikely that this will be possible by 2030.

And if things go too far, there will be no winners at all. Let no one forget that.

As for the situation in the Baltic, that issue was also raised during the conversation, by our European interlocutors. I believe it was the Finnish president who raised it first.

It was said that Finland, like many other European countries, seeks to uphold international maritime law and hopes that all participants in international relations will observe it.

We support that approach. What alternative is there?

Otherwise, we will have a situation similar to what has developed in the Strait of Hormuz.

Does anyone want the Baltic to end up in the same situation as the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz?

I don't know.

We do not want that, but we will respond to any challenge."
