💢 Russia is shifting part of its drone production and strike mix toward faster, jet-powered Geran-4 and Geran-5 UAVs. Russian military blog bmpd, citing Ukrainian military intelligence, reported that production is being reoriented toward the two models and that jet-powered drones accounted for roughly 50% of the UAVs in one recent attack. Their Chinese turbojet engines alone are estimated at $35,000–40,000 each.

The Geran-4 trades some of the Geran-2’s range and low cost for speed, reaching roughly 400–500 km/h with a range around 450 km. The much larger Geran-5 is closer to a low-cost cruise missile, with reported cruising speeds of roughly 450–600 km/h and a range of up to 950 km. The higher speeds reduce interception time and make reliance on cheap interceptor drones and other short-range defenses more difficult, potentially forcing Ukraine to use faster interceptors or more expensive conventional air-defense systems.
