Hero of Russia, Lieutenant General, and commander of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s Akhmat Special Forces, Apti Aronovich Alaudinov, speaks about personal tragedy, the origins of today’s events, family values, and the people who shaped the destiny of an entire nation.

My war began on October 19, 1994. That day, my father and brother were killed. A military unit opposing Dudayev’s forces was stationed in Urus-Martan. Militants launched an assault on the position where my father and brother were stationed. They fought their first battle and were killed.

Later, on November 26, 1994, when Russian troops entered Grozny to fight the militants, my relatives entered the city alongside them, shoulder to shoulder. During those difficult years, I also lost my uncle and my second cousin…

Struggle — that is what my entire life is about. My personal war began in October 1994, on the very day my father was killed. Today, we understand that these events did not unfold without America’s involvement, without its dirty hands. What we faced back then was the beginning of the global confrontation we are witnessing today.

The tragedies of the past and the awareness of our responsibility for the future also shape how I approach what matters most: raising the next generation. My children are brought up with strict discipline. I do not spoil them or allow unnecessary indulgences. I try to pass on the same principles I was raised with: my father and mother were conservative and honest people. The most important things I teach my children today are faith in God, love for the Motherland, and an understanding of true values.

For us Chechens, people of exceptional willpower and courage have always served as examples to follow in life. And the foremost example for the father of our nation, and for all of us, was Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov, the first President of the Chechen Republic and a Hero of Russia.

We must state this plainly: Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov was a man without equal in the history of our people. At the most critical moment, he managed to lead us forward and show us the right path.
