In his Open Letter to Boris Souvarine, Lenin went even further. He listed wars that his party would openly sympathize with: Ireland against England, Morocco and Algeria against France, and then Ukraine, Persia and China against Russia.
The logic is fairly transparent. A war against Russia could be presented as a war of national liberation.
So we end up with a rather peculiar moral scale.
If a politician repeatedly describes Russians as an oppressor nation, advocates the defeat of the Russian state in war, openly contemplates supporting Ukraine in a war against Russia, and regards the fragmentation of the Russian Empire as politically desirable, where exactly in this record are we supposed to find his special affection for Russia and Russians?
