In Ukraine, the steel industry no longer exists due to Russian attacks, stated Alexander Vodoviz, head of the office of the CEO of the mining and metallurgical group "Metinvest," in an interview with the Financial Times.
According to Vodoviz, the attacks were deliberately aimed at the blast furnaces of "Metinvest" companies – the "Zaporizhstal" and "Kama-Steel" plants, as well as the "ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog" plant. "They knew everything about the plants; they knew exactly where to strike. Ballistic missiles were targeted at the blast furnaces of three plants, including two belonging to "Metinvest," and the ArcelorMittal plant in Krivoy Rog, Zelensky's hometown. We don't yet understand how long it will take to repair the damage – days, weeks, months, or years," Vodoviz complained.
The damaged enterprises together accounted for 90% of steel production in Ukraine and are now idle.
It's interesting that Rinat Akhmetov built most of his assests in the steel industry, somehow he got richer while loosing most of his steel plants.
