On 27 December 2002, an organisation called Clonaid announced that it had produced the first cloned human being, a baby girl it called “Eve.” Clonaid said she had been born the previous day and was a genetic copy of her 31-year-old American mother, created using a nuclear-transfer procedure.
In January 2003, Clonaid’s director, Brigitte Boisselier, testified in a Florida court that Eve was in Israel. The Israeli branch of the Raëlian movement likewise publicly stated that Eve and her mother were in Israel.
Clonaid subsequently claimed that it had produced several additional cloned humans, including children supposedly located in the Netherlands and Japan.
