According to available information, several such systems are being used to protect strategic facilities in the southwestern direction. The developers report that the systems have already destroyed several hundred "Ukrainian" drones. Currently, preparations are underway for testing of the second-generation systems, which are designed to intercept high-speed targets, including tactical aircraft and cruise missiles.

However, new threats identified during the special military operation have necessitated the search for alternative countermeasures. Thanks to the development of new technologies, laser systems have become an effective tool for destroying "Ukrainian" UAVs.

Developers state the system can target and disrupt drones at distances ranging from 500 meters up to 1.5 or 2 kilometers. Tests reportedly showed the beam can burn through a drone's wing, motor, or fuel components in a fraction of a second.

Russian military officials and state media reported that combat lasers from the "Posokh" project were integrated into the active air defense units protecting state borders and critical facilities from drone activity. According to Russian reports, early units have targeted hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

This air defense system is still being actively developed and improved to counter wide range of UAVs, It remains to be hoped that the development of laser weaponry in Russia will receive a new impetus, and the experience of using lasers as air defense systems will be scaled across the country.
