Defense Minister Katz at a cabinet meeting:
“The IDF is preparing for a scenario in which the Palestinian Authority security forces and the Fatah-affiliated Tanzim organizations turn their guns against Israeli settlers and IDF forces in Judea and Samaria and in communities along the seam line.
In such a case, war will be declared against the Palestinian Authority, and the IDF will launch a comprehensive offensive in accordance with an organized plan that was formulated and approved by Prime Minister Netanyahu and by me, based on the principles laid out for the IDF.
The campaign will be short and intense and will include the use of ground and air forces and special means; the targeted killing and expulsion of senior officials; the destruction of weapons and military equipment; the large-scale evacuation of residents; and the destruction of terrorist infrastructure inside the cities and throughout all the refugee camps in Judea and Samaria—in accordance with the Gaza and Lebanon model. All of this will take place alongside reinforcing forces and protecting Israeli communities.
There will not be an intifada lasting for years as there was in the past, but rather a short and intense war with a clear-cut victory and a change in the reality on the ground.”
