Good evening, Amit,

I’m writing to you with a suffocating lump in my throat, simply because I can’t stand by and do nothing. My name is Masha Sabag, and I was the homeroom teacher of the late Michael Tyukin.

We still haven’t been able to process it. I can still see him sitting in the classroom with his sweet, shy smile—the kind that simply lit up the room.

Michael was his mother’s only child. He immigrated to Israel six years ago and fought with everything he had to serve in a combat unit. When we first met, he barely spoke Hebrew, but he already had one clear goal: to serve in the Givati Brigade. Last May, he fell at Beaufort.

All of our hearts are broken, and I know how much pain there is everywhere and how many requests you receive. But his classmates simply refuse to give up. Since his mother has no support or means to memorialize him, the students here at our youth village have taken it upon themselves to build a gym in his memory—a place that will carry on his energy and light.

They already tried reaching out to you themselves, but their message was probably lost among the many requests you receive. Their campaign has stalled, and seeing the hope fade from their eyes breaks my heart all over again.

Just one word from you, one small share, could change everything and help them reach their goal. It would bring tremendous comfort to his mother and to all of us.

Thank you so much for listening and for caring,
Masha
