Opinion: From the moment the Supreme Court invented for itself, out of nothing, the authority to strike down Basic Laws, the Basic Law: The Study of Torah has no meaning. If it has any real content, it will be struck down; and if it’s vague, the Court will turn it into a dead letter, just like it did with the Nation-State Law.
I actually support defining Torah study as a fundamental principle of society, simply because I know that in the Supreme Court there’s no one to truly protect any Jewish value, unlike every democratic value.
In contrast, the daycare law is a real event, meant to once again subsidize—at the taxpayer’s expense—those who chose of their own accord not to serve and not to work.
Of course, that too will be struck down by the Court, so it’s unclear why there’s a need to humiliate ourselves and pay.
