Iran is reportedly prolonging negotiations with the United States ahead of November’s midterm elections, as President Donald Trump faces mounting domestic political pressure and elevated global oil prices.

According to a report attributed to Reuters, Tehran is deliberately slowing negotiations in an effort to influence the political environment surrounding the US elections. A Reuters/Ipsos poll reportedly places Trump’s approval rating at 31%, its lowest level of his second presidency. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil is reported to have climbed to $111.50 per barrel. The alleged Iranian strategy remains an attributed assessment rather than an independently established motive.

Prolonged negotiations could increase pressure on Washington by extending uncertainty over regional security and energy supplies. Sustained high oil prices may also intensify domestic economic concerns ahead of the midterms. Tehran could view these conditions as diplomatic leverage, although the extent to which negotiations influence American voters or US policy remains uncertain.
