⭐️ How secure will Telegram Wallet be?
⚫️ At the peak of their popularity, Telegram Gifts quickly attracted plenty of scammers. We’ve already covered how users were lured to fake marketplaces or tricked into handing over access to their Telegram accounts. With Gram Wallet on the way, Telegram accounts could become an even more attractive target.
⚫️ Fortunately, the developers seem to have added several layers of protection. According to new strings found on Telegram’s localization platform, an encrypted backup of the seed phrase will be split into three parts and distributed across three continents. Telegram says those parts can only be used to recover the key on the user’s own devices. On top of that, right after creating a wallet, Telegram will prompt users to enable extra protection with two-factor authentication.
⚫️ Every transaction will also require separate confirmation. Judging by the interface, users will be able to approve transactions with a passcode or Face ID. So even if someone gets access to an unlocked phone, they still shouldn’t be able to move funds out of Gram Wallet without an additional confirmation step.
⚫️ TON Connect adds another layer of protection as well. Unlike on EVM chains, where users can give a smart contract a token approval — for example, permission to spend tokens up to a certain limit without confirming every transfer — TON Connect doesn’t work that way. Every transaction still goes through the wallet and requires user confirmation.
Scammers will almost certainly find ways to adapt to the new protections too. So the best defense is still knowing their playbook in advance. We’ve covered more common schemes in our #antiscam series.
