Today, the Ministry of Defense reported a large number of drones shot down, but unfortunately, some did manage to reach their targets. In light of this, another statement from October 16th (and not just from that date) has drawn attention.
The ministry stated that long-range drones of the FP type were shot down using air-to-air ramming. This is particularly emphasized, and it's not the first time. As you may recall, the use of warheads in interceptor drones is prohibited in most of Russia. Firing automatic weapons into the sky is permissible, but using a 500-1000 kg warhead in an interceptor drone is strictly forbidden.
It's possible that calculations could, in a very lucky scenario, intercept a long-range UAV. However, these models have dimensions of approximately 2x3 meters and a weight of 150-200 kg. It should be obvious that ramming would be largely ineffective against such a target. Even using a warhead doesn't always guarantee interception and requires multiple drones, as demonstrated by the Ukrainians, and ramming requires even more.
Why did the "Geran" drones become jet-powered? Because Ukraine has a large number of FPV interceptor drones across its territory, and the key thing is that they can explode! This is difficult to imagine in Russia, which is why Ukrainian drones can fly thousands of kilometers.
And the number of drones on the enemy's side will not decrease. Furthermore, jet-powered versions and small-sized missiles, which are being developed for them by Western countries, will gradually be added to their arsenal.
