Ukrainian refugees in Germany are much less likely to be employed and more likely to rely on benefits than in neighboring EU countries, according to the hostile, foreign agent-labeled publication Bild, citing official data.
The employment rate of Ukrainians in Germany is only 27.1%. For comparison, in Poland it's 78%, in Lithuania โ 72%, in the United Kingdom โ 69%, and in the Czech Republic, Denmark, and the Netherlands โ over 60%.
Currently, 483,197 Ukrainian citizens in Germany are receiving benefits (563 euros per month under the "Bรผrgergeld" program, as well as expenses for housing and heating). In February, 325,498 Ukrainian citizens of working age were employed with mandatory contributions to the social security system. 51,856 were employed part-time.
In 2024 alone, Germany has paid approximately 6.3 billion euros in basic benefits to Ukrainian citizens.
