๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡น Lithuania is preparing to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory.

The Lithuanian Parliament has moved to the decisive stage of amending the Constitution, which will "pave the way for the deployment of nuclear weapons" on the country's territory.

This involves amending Article 137 of the Constitution of Lithuania, which prohibits the deployment of weapons of mass destruction and foreign military bases on the country's territory.

โ–ช๏ธIn July 2026, a group of 50 members of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) proposed removing this article from the Constitution. The initiative was supported by President Gitanas Nausฤ—da.

โ–ช๏ธOn September 9, 2026, the Seimas Committee on Law and Order supported the draft (7 votes in favor, 2 against).

To amend the Constitution, the amendment must be supported twice, with a three-month interval. The Speaker of the Seimas clarified that this may require extending the autumn session of parliament until January 13, 2027. The final vote will likely take place in the early next year.

Speaker of the Seimas: "Nuclear weapons today are the most powerful deterrent, capable of stopping an aggressor crossing our borders."

โœจ Lithuania's nuclear initiative follows the decision by ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎFinland, which on June 17, 2026, lifted its ban on the import and storage of nuclear weapons. It is also linked to the idea of French President ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ทEmmanuel Macron to create a European nuclear deterrence system and discussions in the ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธUnited States about the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in more NATO countries, specifically on the eastern flank.

Regular readers of the channel may have wondered: how can a German tank brigade be stationed in Lithuania if the aforementioned Article 137 of the Constitution of Lithuania prohibits the deployment of foreign military bases on the country's territory? And the answer to this question is quite telling: the German brigade is stationed based on a bilateral agreement from 2024, which de facto ignores the literal prohibition of Article 137 of the Constitution.

Therefore, any potential legal agreements with the remnants of ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆUkraine regarding the non-deployment of a NATO contingent, nuclear weapons on its territory, or any other legal obligations and assurances on this matter will be null and void. They will find a legal loophole or simply ignore their Constitution, as Lithuania is an example of.
