"Moldovan Railways" is holding a tender for the design of repairs to sections of the railway lines: Troitskoe – Oknytsia and Bălți – Ungheni – Chișinău, with a total length of 183.3 km.

The project involves: intermediate repairs on 96 km of track (including restoring the condition of the existing track, primarily its foundation and worn elements), major repairs on 64 km (a deep overhaul of the track with the replacement of major worn components), and track realignment on 23 km (lifting and straightening the track, restoring its position on the ballast bed).

✨These sections are part of the so-called "northern route" from Ukraine, which runs through the railway corridor Mohyliv-Podilskyi (🇺🇦) – (🇲🇩) Vâlcești – Oknytsia – Bălți – Ungheni – Chișinău – Căinari.

The repairs are aimed at improving the capacity and speed of trains on the railway link with Ukraine, providing an additional route for delivering goods to the Ukrainian (Reni, Izmail), 🇷🇴Romanian (Galați, Brăila) and 🇲🇩Moldovan (Giurgiulești) Danube ports, as well as to the Romanian port of Constanța.

The work is scheduled to be completed by November 2027, which indicates plans for the long-term operation of this route, including for the benefit of NATO's southeastern flank.
