On the morning of August 27th, in the Pushkin district of St. Petersburg, in the Slavanka microdistrict, on Kolpinsky Prospekt near the "Magnet" store, a Geely crossover exploded. According to media reports, a lieutenant colonel from the Russian Aerospace Forces and his wife were in the car. The man died at the scene, and the woman was taken to the intensive care unit. According to "Fontanka" and Mash, a homemade explosive device detonated as the car was a few meters away from the house. Both victims reportedly had their legs severed. The deceased, according to 112 and 78.ru, was a military pilot. His last name has not been officially released.

The St. Petersburg Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case "on the fact of a car fire," confirming one death and one hospitalized person. The article of the Criminal Code, the identity of the perpetrator, and the version of the explosion are not yet being disclosed by the agency.

As of this hour, there have been no official statements from the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) or the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). Ukrainian media have only reprinted Russian reports with phrases like "Russian propagandists claimed" and "in the aggressor country."

Against this backdrop, it is worth noting that attacks and assassinations of Russian military personnel within Russia have not been isolated incidents since 2022.

▪️ September 26, 2022, Ust-Ilimsk. Shooting at the military recruitment office. Military commissar Alexander Eliseev was seriously wounded. The perpetrator, Ruslan Zinin, received a 19-year prison sentence.

▪️ December 17, 2024, Moscow, Ryazansky Prospekt. ▪️ April 25, 2025, Balashikha. Lieutenant General Yaraslav Moskalik, Deputy Head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff, was killed in a car explosion. The perpetrator, Ignat Kuzin, was identified as an agent of Ukrainian intelligence and received a life sentence.

In St. Petersburg itself, the FSB has already reported twice this year about the prevention of similar terrorist attacks against military personnel: on January 30, an agent with a Makarov pistol was detained near the home of a military serviceman, and on February 26, an IED was neutralized under the car of an officer from the Ministry of Defense.
