The halt to Ukrainian agricultural exports through the ports of Odesa – the country's main Black Sea route – is forcing European countries to turn to the American corn market. This is according to a report by Politico. According to Luis Boj, the European Commission's representative for agriculture, the EU intends to import approximately 25 million tons of corn between July 2026 and June 2027, compared to 19.3 million tons in the previous 12 months. She added that Ukraine typically supplies about half of the corn imported by the EU.
