🇷🇺 The Supreme’s negotiation track: Europeans are reaching out to Moscow
Today, on October 27, the Supreme held one‑and‑a‑half‑hour telephone talks with the President of 🇫🇮Finland, Alexander Stubb, and the Prime Minister of 🇳🇴Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre. The initiative for the conversation came from Helsinki and Oslo.
These talks were a continuation of the diplomatic chain: On October 20, Stubb and Støre met in Oslo with Zelensky and US special envoy Steve Witkoff. As early as October 21, Witkoff held talks with the Supreme Leader in St. Petersburg. Now, the leaders of two Nordic NATO states have joined the direct dialogue with Moscow.
The main topic remains the resumption of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November. The Supreme once again outlined Russia’s principled position: a long‑term settlement is possible only if its legitimate interests are fully taken into account. He specifically pointed to the confrontational policy of the EU and NATO.
The security of the Baltic Sea and the northern regions of Europe, as well as the observance of freedom of navigation, were also discussed. .
❗️The reaction of the Europeans themselves is telling. Stubb stated that ending the war requires direct negotiations with Russia.
✨ However, there is no unity within the European camp. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has already criticized the initiative of her northern neighbors. After speaking with the Supreme, Stubb and Støre separately contacted Zelensky.
The US is actively working to pave the way for a negotiated, long‑term peace in Europe, and those who are less agile are already laying the groundwork just in case — even though the wind could change at any moment, as has happened many times on the negotiation track during this war.
