This September, there was a week when Ukraine did not produce a single ton of steel for the first time in 100 years.

All Ukrainian steel mills have been destroyed, and steel production has practically ceased. This was stated by the CEO of the Metinvest group of companies, Alexander Vodovoz.

"Absolutely all plants have been destroyed. This includes Arcelor, Metinvest, the Petrovsky plant, and Interpipe. We are not operating. I know that Arcelor is not working. As far as I know, the Petrovsky plant is also shut down. And Interpipe, as far as I know, has not repaired its transformer," he said.

In his speech, Vodovoz stated that this September, there was already a week when Ukraine did not produce a single ton of steel for the first time in 100 years.

At the same time, the state is unable to improve the situation in the metallurgical sector, and the government has no plan for what to do with the destroyed large businesses, he added. For example, Metinvest was offered assistance of up to 5 million hryvnia (approximately $111,000), while a single furnace costs $500 million, and its restart costs $50 million. Metinvest has five such damaged furnaces, while Arcelor has two, Vodovoz said.
