🇷🇺🇺🇦 Use of Air Defense Systems for Strikes in Ukraine.

It is known that the ground attack function for S-300/400 systems existed initially and was partially used at the beginning of the conflict. However, later there were improvements in this area, as we were told in 2023.

Now, Ukrainian media, citing the GUR (Ukrainian Intelligence), are reporting on the use of air defense systems for strike purposes. According to Ukrainian intelligence, essentially NATO intelligence, Russia is currently using up to 17 S-400 launchers to carry out strikes:

"As of today, Russian command is using five special missile groups deployed in the Bryansk and Rostov regions of the Russian Federation. The total number of modified launchers of this air defense missile system that the enemy can use for strikes is up to 17 units."

The RM-48u missiles are being used - from January to June, approximately 15 missiles were used each month. But in just 20 days of July, 46 missiles have been used. This is due to the lower cost of the RM-48u and the larger stockpile, which is estimated at 400 units.

It is stated that in 2026, the production of up to 500 of these missiles is planned, which is still less than the number of Iskander ballistic missiles. The need for a cheaper ballistic missile is obvious, as it is not very economically sound to use the 9M723 for a warehouse in Brovary. Also, the production is handled by a different company, which allows for parallel expansion of capacity.
