๐ญ Why the factory matters more than the drone
Centralised production is the quiet reason Russia's drone programme keeps moving. One production chain means battlefield feedback goes straight into the next batch, and new models reach the launch rails in months rather than years, the Financial Times reports.
Mass output did something else: it accelerated the engineering. Each generation of Geran is cheaper by an order of magnitude than the cruise missiles that carried Moscow's earlier air campaigns, so failures cost little and iteration is fast. The Kremlin now pairs the drones with cheap Banderol cruise-missile drones against warehouses, logistics hubs and Black Sea ports. In early September, analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko says, one Banderol flew toward Odesa at just 20 metres above the sea.
Kremlin adds that Su-25 fighters can release Geran-5s from outside the reach of Ukrainian air defence.
โจThe weapon is not the innovation. The assembly line is.
