The EBRD is struggling to secure €500 million for repairs to the Chernobyl sarcophagus, which was damaged by a Russian drone in February 2025.
While there is no immediate risk of a radiation leak, the damage must be addressed by 2030 to prevent moisture from causing structural corrosion. The bank is urging donors to view these costs as an investment in international nuclear safety.
