❗️🤔An international team of molecular biologists has discovered that new forms of the malaria parasite have begun spreading in Uganda. These forms are resistant to the most effective antimalarial drugs due to previously unknown mutations in the PX1 gene

Its rapid spread highlights the need to develop new medicines, the press service of Brown University in the United States reported.

According to the WHO, around 220 million people worldwide are infected with malaria of various types. More than 400,000 people die from the disease every year, while the death toll is rising rapidly because the parasite and its vectors are becoming increasingly resistant to drugs and toxic substances.
